ITINERARY

We pick up you from the Salaverry Port to the city of Chan Chan where we visit the Site Museum. Here your tour guide will give us a general introduction about Chimú history and the construction process of the city. We will visit the different rooms of the museum, including the one dedicated to the model of Chan Chan.

We will take a walk through the (carob) native woodland of the museum to observe birds of the dry forest, including the Vermilion flycatcher, Long-tailed mockingbird, Peruvian thick-knee (huerequeque), house sparrow, etc. We will also have the opportunity to take spectacular photos with the background of the Huaca Toledo.

We continue our route to visit the Nik An Walled Complex, the only one open to tourism.

In Nik An we visited the ceremonial plazas, the temples sector, the ceremonial huachaque and the funerary platform where the remains of Lord Chimú were placed.

During our tour we will have the opportunity to recognize birds such as: the turkey and black vultures, the American kestrel, cowbirds and other birds of the area.

Next to, we go to the fishing village of Huanchaco to see the reed boats «Caballitos de Totora».

Huanchaco is an ancient fishing village where the fishermen have preserved the ancestral use of the “small horse reed boats” that were used by the Moche and the Chimu people. During the colonial times, Huanchaco was a port that lost its importance during the 1870’s, when Salaverry port was founded.

You will have free time for lunch at beachfront restaurant. Finally, we will return to the cruise.

NOTE: The tour includes use of binoculars and spotting scopes Vortex.
