Itinerary

DAY 1: CUSCO – CITY TOUR – SACSAYHUAMAN
– Transfer from the airport to your hotel.

City Tour
– You begin the city tour at the Cathedral and the Koricancha or Temple of the Sun, an important example of Inca architecture, this is the Santo Domingo church now.

Following that, you head upwards to Sacsayhuaman, a fortress located in a strategic spot high above the city with a view that is absolutely stunning.

You will also visit Kenko, the amphitheater and religious center; Tambomachay, it is called as well “The Inca Baths” and center of worship to the water god; and finally we go to Puca-Pucara “The red fortress” built to protect Tambomachay.

DAY 2: SACRED VALLEY OF THE INCAS
– Breakfast.

This morning depart for a full-day trip, we drive 32 kilometers to visit the colorful Indian market at Pisac and the archaeological site.

– Lunch at local restaurant in Urubamba.

In the afternoon we will visit the ancient fortifications at Ollantaytambo, one of the most monumental architectural complexes of the ancient Inca Empire. Ollantaytambo was a highly effective fortress, that also served as a temple. Then, we will follow to the town of Ollantaytambo, “the unique living Inca town”: the best surviving example of Inca city planning, with narrow cobblestone streets that have been continuously inhabited since the 13th century.

From Ollantaytambo you will go to the train station for your Vistadome class train ride to Aguas Calientes at the base of Machu Picchu.

DAY 3: MACHU PICCHU 
Early, your guide assists you to the buses and together you take the winding journey up the mountain to see and experience Machu Picchu for the first time. Spend the morning at the citadel with your private guide. If you’d like, hike to Inti Punku, or “Sun Gate,” the original gateway to Machu Picchu that approaches the site along the Inca trail and offers the most superb views of the ruins and the surrounding landscapes. For something less rigorous, traverse the narrow Inca road amid lush vegetation to an Inca bridge.

Once the guided tour is over, you will have some free time to explore the site on your own, to relax, or to meditate. At the agreed upon hour, you will descend to Aguas Calientes for lunch and board the train later that afternoon for the return trip.

Once you have arrived at either the Ollantaytambo or Poroy Station, you will be driven to your hotel.

DAY 4: CUSCO
– Breakfast.
A.M. – 40 kilometers from Cuzco is the town of Maras, found in the high part of the Sacred Valley of the Incas. Tourist sites in the area include the colonial church and local salt mines, the scenery of which is interesting to observe and photograph. Since pre-Inca times, salt has been obtained in Maras by evaporating salty water (provided by a nearby subterranean stream) in the sun, leaving the salt behind.

Moray, seeing this Inca green-house is spectacular. This tour will take you to the magnificent series of terrace circles set into the ground that were once used by the Incas for experimentation with crops. You will also visit the nearby salt mines and enjoy the tranquil farms and atmosphere of the area.

DAY 5: CUSCO – LIMA
– Breakfast.
– Transfer to the airport.
